How do you stop acrylic paintings from looking plastic-like? Last year my
raiinbowstar
art class got to paint on one of the hallways of the school. However, all

to the plastic-like texture. This year we get to paint on ceiling tiles

It is very simple. add some water to the paint. That will take

some of the shine out of it. Experiment with how much water you add to

Acrylic paint is a plastic & there is just enough of a satin

finish that it looks just like a glob of plastic when a drip of it dries

but this isn't why ur paintings look plastic-like. There is a difference.

What is making it look ''plastic'' is probably better described as

''flat.'' Flat painting means the forms in ur painting are not

convincingly real & three dimensional. Acrylic dries so fast. You paint an
area with a color & it dries before you paint the area next to it. This
doesn't allow for blending & transparent effects which are necessary to
represent how things really look. Try using an additive, called a medium
in painting terms, that increases transparency & delays drying long enough
to blend ur passages.

Acrylic paint is plastic. That is why it is best suited to
King Kong
paint on walls, ceilings etc.It is very VERSATILE & somewhat inexpensive.

There are however textures which you can add to the paint while painting

to change the end result some. I would also suggest painting with a lot of

paint as a solid color.

Oil paint just takes too long to dry, is very expensive, & has quite a
messy clean-up.

However acrylic paint drys fast & is easily cleaned-up with water if you
catch it before it drys.

I would not look so much to change the type of paint as I would change my
painting techniques.
